Livestrong Race
AJ and myself headed down to B'Ham, Alabama to race at Barber Motorsports Speedway. It was awesome as the course wasnt a typical oval but had a couple of tight turns one was a 180 and another a corkscrew turn. The race short only 9 laps of a 2.38 mile circuit but the crosswind across the course made it interesting. Like any other short race it went from the gun. But after two laps it was clear it was going to be a bunch sprint. I just followed wheels and didnt do any real attacking. A couple different breaks got off the front but never materialized a significant gap until with 2.5 laps to go two riders were off the front and one of the dudes in the break's teammates was riding on the front kinda easy. With one lap to go I saw them about 15 seconds off the front and attacked the peloton right before the 180 turn and bridged to them in the cross-head wind section. Then I look back to see what was going on and there is Olheiser and Winstead coming fast. But once our mini group was away we all kinda looked at each other so we were caught. Time for the sprint saw AJ in a good position 5th wheel with 500 meters to go. Sat at the back of the field just chilling and saw AJ take third so a good result for us for either one of us not being race fit.
